Monday 1st July 2013, Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia:

A Russian MIL-8 helicopter with 28 persons on board has crashed around 50 km to the northwest of Deputatsky in the Sakha Republic, killing at least 21 people. Many of the occupants are reported to be children.

Rescue efforts are being hampered by rugged mountainous terrain, darkness and adverse weather conditions.
