A helicopter – reportedly a Eurocopter AS350 B3 – has crashed in remote NW Nepal, killing a Nepalese passenger and seriously injuring two others including the Italian pilot.
The helicopter had been involved in a rescue mission following landslides near Hilsa village, and crashed while attempting an emergency landing adjacent to the Karnali River in Humla among steep terrain.
The crash site is approximately 18 km east of Hilsa and 35 km to the NW of the intended destination of Simikot (approximately 420 km NW of Kathmandu). Survivors were airlifted to Simikot for treatment.
The helicopter is operated by Fishtail Air (www.fishtailair.com).
